meet business professionals at conferences and workshops. At the event, we talk and exchange business cards, but then what. They are numerous articles on how to make connections but not as many on leveraging relationships. These are a few strategies I have incorporated into my process:
Connecting with people online: When I meet someone at a workshop or conference, I ask if they have a social networking account (FairyGodBoss, LinkedIn, etc.).
Reaching out to the connection with event suggestions: If we met at a women's conference and there is another local women's conference a month away. I will send them an email about the conference and ask if they are interested in attending.
Occasionally asking for advice on work projects: When I am working on a project and need another perspective, then I will seek advice from the connections.
