Stuck at Home? Try Learning Something

Like many of us, I am in lockdown, have been for a while and expect to be for a while more. During this time, I am building up new skills and pursuing some fun interests, using online platforms like Coursera.org and free courses from reputable service providers (e.g. Modzilla or LinkedIn). Some relate to work, others to my side hustle, others to random interests. I set aside about an hour a day for it, some of which used to be commute time. So far I have learned about the history of magic in medieval times, SEO, and now transmedia storytelling. I've also added a course completion in scientific writing to my LI profile. Who else is taking this road, and what courses or platforms can you recommend? Soap, seclusion and safety everyone!

EdX is great for a wide variety of courses from Ivy League and other higher education courses. The only challenge is that it's difficult to sort through what is undergraduate level and graduate level that are more geared towards professional level continuing education material.

For my fellow marketing professionals, I recommend Google Ads and HubSpot certifications. Please share any other free courses you have tried!

yeah...I am in that path as well already! I have completed a 7-day 1-hr learning program from Stanford Great Learning as well as doing another on Digital Marketing/SEO over the weekends. It's a nice feeling to have learnt something new for the day! Hope we are making best use of the opportunities that have presented themselves without we going for it!

I too love Lynda.com through my local public library. Iike the fact that Lynda.com gives you a certificate of attendance, which I will place on my personnel file at work in case I'm audited. I'm also able to access Gale courses through my public library, and I bet you can too. It's truly a blessing how many FREE online educational opportunities are out there, and this is the perfect time to make use of them. I'm able to count a lot of them as professional development credits, which is great.

Gale courses are free and they are 6-week long. My public library grants free access to Gale courses. With our library membership we can take two 6-week long courses per year. There are over 300 courses available on a myriad of topics. Check it out. I hope that helps, Marnie:-)

I'm taking this time for personal development as well, and have challenged myself to study an hour daily. Sites I recommend are; coursera.org lynda.com (LinkedIn through my local library) GCFlearnfree.org (short youtube video link https://youtu.be/Zpc5kS39ICs) If, for some reason, you don't have a lot of time but like to learn; I recommend gohighbrow.com. When you sign up and select a topic, you will receive one 5 minute daily lesson via email.

Talk about making lemonade from lemons - what a great use of time! Check out your public library website - the Philadelphia one has amazing opportunities to learn from courses to databases to ebooks and audiobooks. Thanks for sharing!
