Trying to plan a trip to Thailand sometime in 2019-2020

What are the best towns/cities and what are some can't beat experiences? Best time to go? How long to go? Just any little gems of knowledge on this would be great!

Chiang Mai is a definite! I would disagree, however, with only spending 24 hrs in Bangkok—there are beautiful and iconic sites there and you won’t get to see that much in 24 hours (at a minimum I’d recommend 2-3 days—Grand Palace is a must, as is Wat Arun and Wat Pho (both temples). We did a day trip from Bangkok to the floating market (Damnoen Saduak) and railway market, which was a really cool experience. We did Phuket instead of Koi Samui. We enjoyed that as well.

I agree with the comment about Bangkok. It is just a typical city with lots of congestions. I loved Chiang Mai and the islands. Chiang Mai is more rural but it is tourist-friendly. I don't like places with big crowds so I like islands like Koh Chang and Koh Lipe more. Koh Lipe is a ferry away from Malaysia's Langkawi so you can also go to Malaysia for a day or two :)

The islands are beautiful and I agree with Chiang Mai. You only need 24 hours to know Bangkok. I wouldn't take a lot of time there because there is just so much else to see. Chiang Rai was a place I wish I added to the list to go.

Chiang Mai was my favorite. It's near the northern mountains filled with historical monuments and temples. It's close to a lot of amazing places near to hang out with elephants. If you order mango sticky rice, you will not be disappointed. Massaman curry = Best. Island wise.. I recommend flying to Krabi and taking a boat to Railay beach! Koh Phi Phi is great too. Such a great trip!
