Do we have to use this time to be super healthy?

Obviously, I want to be as healthy as can be, and not eating out helps with this a lot! But as people fight against the COVID productivity craze, I'm wondering why we're not doing the same with new workout trends. Do we have to be using this time to stay healthy? Can I eat some extra snacks when I'm feeling down, or should I be harder on myself?

I would say no, use this time to create habits that will sustain after this period ends. I am not saying not to snack smart or manage your portions but DNT restrict yourself from enjoying those treats and meals that bring the family together!!

Thanks, Cherri! You're right - restriction has never worked for me. It's all about balance.

I love this topic. Start with self-compassion. But remember, self compassion does not let you tread forever in behaviors that are harmful to you in the long run. Food can be deliciously healing, immune boosting and combat the depression and anxiety resulting from these tricky times. It can also take you on an insulin roller coaster, cause mood swings, plummet immunity and tank your energy. We need all the help we can get. Eat well because you want to be the best version of yourself during one of the hardest times we will likely face. Use food as fuel, not friend. There are some great healthy treat recipes out there! Great time to try them. Be kind and not judgy about your choices AND eat well not because you should, but as a strategy to thrive instead of just survive our gelatinous pervasive friend. #yougotthis Such a great question!!

And “ super healthy “ is a BIG word - I would settle for mid- healthy....ha ha. But you get it. Small goals.

Guilt is a wasted emotion. You need to do what YOU need to do to get through this and if it means having a few extra snacks, so be it. What you don't want to do is use food to sooth your emotions because that habit is really going to expand and be hard to break and can lead down the wrong path. Make sure you are indulging because you feel like having a snack and not because you are unhappy, stressed or worried.

Definitely. I think mindful eating is key here, and will probably make me enjoy my food more!

I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way to be here! If you were one of my students, I would just encourage to be mindful of how you're dealing with stressors as we can build hard-to-break habits overtime. Also, to remind yourself that even if the day doesn't go as planned (for ex: you skip your afternoon walk), you can always learn from it and start fresh again! No need to "wait" until Monday or when we're out of quarantine, etc. YOU GOT THIS!

Lindsey, thank you so much! I think I'm so likely to get into the all-or-nothing mindset. I'm either eating fresh food and working on my body or totally slipping up and being lazy and unhealthy. You're so right - I just have to push through and keep learning!

I say do YOU, Lifelover. But if you want to give yourself a challenge, go for a walk or do some yoga or some jumping jacks or SOME form of activity after you polish off all those Oreos or that pint of Ben & Jerry's. Remember, goals are subjective. And, right now, we need to find as much joy as possible. [Which is why that cheesecake never really stood a chance...lol!]

YES, thank you! It's all about balance, right? I'll definitely try to add some more movement and veggies, but erase that guilt.
