I wake up at 4am every morning and here is why I love it

I know that willingly waking up this early sounds crazy but I cannot tell you how amazing it is for managing my time. At 4am I hop out of bed and either hit the gym or head for a run. I workout for 45-60 minutes and only spend 40ish minutes getting ready. As a working mom, I think that’s impressive. I have a 20 minute work commute and I’m usually at the office by 6am. This gives me 3-4 more hours before everyone else arrives at the office and it’s when I get the most done at work. I get to zone in without any distractions and it’s amazing. I’m lucky to have a boss that respects my hours (because I get the job done) so I’m usually out the door by 2pm everyday. That gives me the entire day of freedom to see my kids after school and hang out. Note: My kids are old enough to get to school on their own.

I'm a morning person so I totally relate to this (even if 4 am is a bit early, even for me). I also have a 6 month old baby at home, so sometimes I don't have a choice but to wake up this early. That said, I think there are some disadvantages. You don't get the same overlap with your colleagues and sometimes important things might happen in the afternoon. If your work allows for that and your manager is fine with it, that's amazing. But I know that I've adjusted my work hours to maximize collaboration as well as my own personal productivity (which probably mirrors something like your preferred hours).

Wow, I wonder if my manager would be cool with this. This would give me so much time in the day to relax, do some errands or hangout with friends or my kids.
