Where to stay in Austin, TX?

Going on a short trip with some friends and visiting Austin for the first time. Where is the best area to get an airbnb? Also, if you have some places that are must see's please let me know! We loveeeee to eat, will probably go out (bars) two nights of our stay and we don't mind cutesy tourist things.

We stayed in East Austin because we had a wedding we needed to go to and it was great but not super walkable. I would suggest if you don't have a car to try to stay in the middle of the city if you can so you can walk to most of the places. We used Uber and had no problems but wish we stayed closer to Rainey Street so we could experience the nightlife a little easier. I think everyone said the best placed to eat but if you don't want to wait in life for Franklin's BBQ I recommend Terry Black's. It was amazing and the lines are much more manageable and they don't run out of food like Franlin's can. We had a fabulous time in Austin, you can't really go wrong!

Sway Thai on s. 1st street is THE BEST as well as Suerte a Mexican joint downtown who makes their own masa and killer mezcal cocktails? (not the best spot for vegetarians though). If you want to go to bars you’ll appreciate Rainey Street. And if you plan on doing any shopping south congress ave still has some locally owned boutiques like creatures and maya. I would get an air bnb in Travis heights or Bouldin creek area. Both neighborhoods on either side from south congress. Have fun!

Fun! Where to begin?? For AirBNB's check out east 6th Street area and South Congress area. South Congress street is great for shopping and walking around during the day. Check out Rainy Street for bar hopping - great for the day/night with a lot of food trucks and backyards games and good for groups. Also, don't leave without getting a taco! You can't go wrong with Torchy's Tacos or Tacodeli.

I second Amy's. It's an experience to watch them prepare your ice cream.
