What do you think makes a resume look dated?

I interviewed a Certified Resume Writer on my Ready Pause Go podcast this week and she named a few things that will instantly date your resume - an objective at the top, your mailing address, an old-fashioned email address (hello, aol) and "References Available Upon Request." Does anything else stand out to you?

Personally, I am huge fan of modern fonts. I feel like older fonts are also more likely to show a "dated" resume.

Thanks for the tip. Can you name a couple of "modern fonts" for reference?

The objective has evolved into more of a branding statement which is your unique set of skills, experience, accomplishments. The Certified Resume Writer that I interviewed on my podcasts chats more about it if you're interested... www.readypausego.com/episode24

Why is an objective or professional summary not desirable?

I personally believe it takes up too much space in which you can use it for something more "valuable" to showcase yourself like projects/activities outside your work experience.

No HS dates, no age referenced items. Remove objectives. No use of things like "corel word perfect" etc. No jobs past last 10 years on resume.

YES! The only one I have deviated from is the jobs from the last 10 years. I took a 13 year career pause and work with a lot of women who also take long pauses. When I returned to work a few years ago, I still wanted the big jobs I'd had at big companies listed on there.
