At least awesome

Hey Ladies, I have literally just stumbled upon this community and read through a few posts, but what I read was immensely helpful for my peace of mind. All posts and especially all comments are appreciating of each other, respectful and incredibly thoughtful! I can relate to a lot of posts I read in this short while describing inequality or just needing a helping thought. And all answers were really trying to ease/help the poster. So sorry for my quite unrelated post here, I just wanted to let all of you know how awesome this community is and look forward to be helped and help you from now on!

Welcome! When I joined, I felt the same - it was refreshing to see a group of professional women encourage and help each other. I love the articles, and enjoy reading all of the questions and comments as well. I usually read through the new content first thing in the morning, and it helps me start my day off with the right attitude!

Welcome! And I agree. I find the conversations heartening. And, dispensing advice based on my experiences helps me feel like less of an unemployed loser.

Stephanie, I’m unemployed or retired (haven’t decided which) at the moment. What I just discovered in the past week that might help you and others not to feel like a loser is the following: Focus on the good work you have done and the positive outcomes that you have achieved, *not* on how Co-workers, managers or companies have treated you. I am certain that you have achievements. Please know that they are in no way diminished because you are unemployed. When I flipped my focus to my actual achievements/business outcomes (not my employment status, my financial success or how I’ve been treated in the workplace), I realized that I have a great deal to be proud of. I hope that this helps you and others. And I admire that you had the courage to mention that you are not employed— it gave me the courage to do the same. Bravo!

I posted this and reconsidered because my comment wasn’t 100% relevant to the OP. But then, I thought about how being honest about the workplace is a great part of FGB. My truth, is I feel delightfully untethered from my job as a source of identity. It’s true, I haven’t been getting paid to do much lately, but I’ve invested in friendships, nonprofits, started an oral history project, and became a much, much nicer person. So, yes it is brave, and there is stigma around not working. And yes, some days I feel a rising panic that I have squandered what was a really lovely career on silly things like dreams and integrity. But those days are few between. Ugh, I did it again. Sorry, Vivi-Lou. I hope you find this community beneficial and inspiring.

Thank you! Though I did not expect this ending of your comment! Experiencing what it does to a person to be unemployed from my nearest family I can only tell you that in 99/100 cases there IS an opportunity waiting for YOU. You must not let yourself down. Although I know this is the hardest part of it all.
