How to Slow/Stop the Perimenopausal Mombo

Ugh - I feel like I've tried everything: functional medicine appointments and $$ bloodwork, $$ supplements, keto, low-carb, no-carb, low-sugar, no-sugar, no gluten, high-intensity exercise, low intensity exercise. The scale does NOT budge. Well, I take that back - it keeps going UP. Any success stories/thoughts/help/candy would be greatly appreciated. :)

I can totally relate. I know this isn't the best advice but dark chocolate cures everything for me.

I am in the same boat! Even though my period stopped almost 6 years ago I still suffer from symptoms periodically -- bloating, cramps, headache. I have gained 40 lbs in 10 years and now I really struggle with sleep patterns, digestion issues, and just general energy. I tried an 'out of the box' program my 50-year old niece is using, Elevacity, but though it helped with energy and sleep, it didn't affect my biggest concern...weight. It's also very expensive, $125/month, so after two months I quit my plan. I am now looking for other types of support.

I'm so sorry this has gone on so long for you. Perimenopause and menopause are such weird topics to discuss, yet sooner or later, we'll all experience one or the other. I think the frustration lies is that we're all at different points emotionally, hormonally, physically and mentally. There's no "quick fix", as everything (diet, supplements, exercise, etc.) takes at least 1-2 months to recognize a difference, if any. Are you able to talk with your mom or any other women in your family who might be able to shed light on this subject, as in, how they dealt with it? There may be a common thread that could spark some enlightenment/progress for you. Best of luck!

My mom had a full hysterectomy at 45, but my sister, who is 12 years older than me, had some similar issues but not as long. We have changed insurances over the last year and I am due for a check up so it's just telling me its time to get in.

Wow - full hysterectomy @ 45. That's a lot to take in at that age. In my experience, I've had better luck with functional medicine (we have Aligned Health in Chicago). See if your insurance covers it before you go in, as it can be very pricey if you have to pay out of pocket (I did). Functional med physicians are well trained, informative, thorough and work with the whole body, not just your symptoms . For ex., at Aligned, they have very specific blood, saliva and ... umm... poop tests that reveal much more info about your body and food sensitivities than the usual Western medicine lab tests. If you're not into alternative medicine, by all means, talk openly with your physician. I hope you find the answer(s)! It's a jog, not a sprint, unfortunately.

Hi Amy - from what I've read and seen, it's different for everyone. If you have any questions, and if I can save you $, I'm happy to share what I know. I've followed Carrie Vitt and Bridgit Danner's sites. They're helpful with info, but not able to point you into a single, proven direction.
