Inspiration Needed

Hello my name is Christina. I have over 20 years of working in an business environment in accounting, finance. human resources and business analytics. Except for the last year I have always taken at least one college course, worked full time. After the recession in 2008 and working for 4 companies that eventually closed. I decided to work as a contractor full time and go to school full time. I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Business Leadership and Management in 2015 and went on to graduate with my Master's in Business Administration in 2017. I volunteer in my community and I am a part of many boards at my job. I often voice my ideas to numerous members in management in our standing 1:1 meetings. I am happy to report that I feel my ideas being heard because I can see the changes that are being made through those collaborations. My challenge is moving to that next level within an organization. I have worked so hard all my life to provide and be a role model for my children and I don't know how to get to the next level. When I ask for feedback I'm told that I do an amazing job and I'm one of the hardest most dedicated people, the organization is just going through a lot of change. I do see this as well. The roles are available but they seem to be already spoken for. What can I do to be noticed and considered for these positions? I currently live in the Midwest and have considered moving to a larger city that may have more diversity.

First of all, congratulations on achieving so much already. If you would like to stay with your current place, consider talking to your boss and asking the same question you posted here ... “what can I do to be noticed and considered for these positions?”. If you really do want to move on, that’s exciting and I would suggest identifying cities youd like to live in, and then research companies in those cities. Look at the jobs and companies on Fairygodboss, these are companies actively recruiting women, and the information and reviews will help you know if they are a good fit for you. Good luck and stay confident!!!
