Has anyone here hired or have experience with a virtual assistance?

I recently read The Four Hour Work Week and I’m now interested in hiring a virtual assistant. There are so many parts of my day that aren’t hard to do, but nessasary and very time-consuming. Any advice or experience on this topic would be much appreciated! .

I have a lot of of friends who have hired a virtual assistant and they swear by it. They aren't starting their own company or anything... they just want the extra help.
