I had 2 rounds of interviews with different people from the department hiring for this position. One of the rounds was about 2 hours long. I later heard from the HR person that they were impressed by my qualifications but felt I was overqualified for the position. She said she wasn’t part of the meeting when the decision was made. What does it really mean when they use this ‘overqualified’ reason? If I’m applying for the position it means I’m comfortable with it and I’m already employed so I’m not desperate. It was very frustrating and honestly I was somewhat angry about it. Of course I’m over it now but what does it mean when employers use this ‘overqualified’ reason?
