Looking for some feedback on names...

If I said I offered a career hack or a career reboot, what would think I could be offering? And would you be interested? I'm looking for some feedback on the name for one of my services. I offer a 1 hour coaching session which is focused on stepping back and understanding where your career is going, helping you get clearer about your personal mission and seeing how that fits with your career. I typically unpick what you think a career is, what success is, and help you see the big picture, before zooming back into where you are now and the actions you want to take to realign all of these. It’s specifically aimed at women in tech, so I’m keen to call it something that speaks to you - hence asking the question. Right now I’ve called it a Career Hack - because it’s about pulling apart your traditional ideas around career, and then hacking them back together again. Another idea I had was Career Reboot - because it’s aimed at those wanting to take a new look at their career. Open to other suggestions - but most of all interested in either of these names appeal.

Thank you everyone for all the feedback and comments. I put this out across a few platforms and the general feedback was that Career Hack wasn't great. Career Reboot generally got a thumbs up, and there were several other suggestions too. But as Career Reboot went down so well, I've gone with that. So I'll be launching my Reboot Your Career sessions this Sunday (21st June). If you're interested to find out more check out my video here... https://youtu.be/04LCvXtRFrw And if you register your interest before the full launch you will get an additional 30 min follow up coaching session when you book. All I need is your name and email through this form. https://bit.ly/reboot-pre-launch Any questions please ask or DM me!

If you use any of yours or other people's ideas, I suggest you either include technology (i.e., TechCareers Reboot or TechnoCareers) in the name or in a tagline to clarify who you are working with. Yes, but reboot sounds technological. It is cute but it does not specifically state whom you work with.

Thanks Lynne. I'll have a think about that - I do tend to mention tech in all things associated with it now I reflect!

If you "google" career hack or career reboot, you get a list of other similar organizations that do what you do. That said - either name would work, but I would consider deciding first what value you provide to your clients and then coming up with a name (or even just a tag line) that defines just that. Interestingly, if you google "how to get my tech career back on track," you get a lot of free thought leadership from IT related sites such as cio.com. What you offer is common, but unique in that there's not a huge time commitment to get help. People are so busy these days so the fact you offer a 1 hour session - that's great! I'm leaning towards - Career Reboot - Moving your career forward in 60 minutes or less.

Thanks Jane - thats really useful! A huge amount of the value comes from the one-to-one personalised work and feedback. There are others out there doing it - and I've benefited from it myself. I'm hoping that people will get a good feel for working with me specifically through the videos, stories and tips that I share!

I think hack sounds like a BuzzFeed list- like something you can quickly and easily do and just keep going on your path. Reboot sounds like rethinking, reimagining, etc. Good luck to you!!

That are great suggestions already, but one I thought of - Career Refresh? I can see where some might work with you - not so much to go into a new career, but perhaps to give insight and steps into furthering the career he/she is already in. Also, if you ever decided to branch this service out to include other fields, having a more "general" name might work better? All the best...

i read through the comments and I vote for (in order) 1. Career Discovery <-- sounds investigative to me 2. Career Checkup <-- sounds diagnostic 3. Career Rebuild <-- sounds exploratory

Rebuild is another term used in the tech world. It is beginning with the same basic system and improving or upgrading the components for greater performance. I certainly could use a Career Rebuild myself!

Hack can also mean someone who does things strictly for money and usually with bad results. Career Hack can be read as a careerperson who is doing meaningless, bad work! Reboot sounds inaccurate to me though, as their career won’t be rebooted after one hour (probably?). Reimaging, rethink, brainstorm, construct, spec ... some words that might help!

Thanks Aer - I think what you just said is about hack is what has made me ask the question. It just doesnt feel quite right!

Thanks Laura! I also have career clarity on the list. But trying to make sure that techies know it's tailored for them... hence trying to make a reference to tech in some way!
