Employer not responding to background check

Hi all! Looking for thoughts/experience with this. I have been offered a job pending background check. Everything is complete except one of my 2 most recent employers hasn't responded to my background check. Its a small organization that is historically bad about communication in my experience. I only worked there for 2 months back in 2014 (it was a summer job) and didn't make enough to file taxes, so I don't have tax documentation to show I worked there on my own. I even reached out to give them a heads up that they would be contacted by a background check agency and am going to try calling today. Do you think this will keep me from getting the job? My most recent employer, who I worked with for over 5 years and my education have both been confirmed.

As long as no negative information is developed this should be a non-issue.

I doubt it will stop you from getting the job. Do you have any other experience before that from another employer or place you worked longer? While they asked for the two most recent employers, since you were only at this company 2 months that doesn't really seem all that valid. If you have a job before that where you were at for a longer period of time that will give you a strong reference, you could email the person up and mention that you only worked at this job for 2 months and they are small and short staffed, so if they have difficulty getting a hold of them here's the information for the job you had right before that where you worked for X years.

Thanks for the tip! I do have one other option that can work and I also can provide 2 references from that job that no longer work there if they need it.

Those sound like great options. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Hope it all works out.

Since you already put it on your resume, I would just let the potential new employer know that you only worked there for a couple months several years ago and that they are probably not going to call back about the background check; hence why you left after such a short period of time. That may let them know to skip it. After that, unless you're applying for law enforcement or something that needs a very detailed background, I wouldn't bother putting it on your resume, especially since it's from 6 years ago. If you don't have at least two or three more recent jobs to list, then change your resume to reflect your experience rather than a list of jobs.

Thanks! Unfortunately, the background check isn't conducted based on my resume. I had to go in and list my last 2 employers and this is technically one of my last 2 employers. I would think under that circumstance that I have to list it even if I can leave it off of a resume. I contacted the HR team for my potential employer. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not sure you would need to put a company on your resume if you were only there for 2 months. I thought the only jobs you needed to include were ones that you made it past the 90 day mark.

For the background check I had to manually enter the last 2 companies I worked for. Also, prior to my most recent job, most of my jobs were college/grad school internships and summer jobs. I'm still relatively early in my career.
