Why HR?

I recently got asked, "why did you choose a career in HR" I was just curious as to what other HR Professionals would say their reasoning as to why they choose to have a career in HR? For me, it was the fact that I would be able to alter an candidates life with the opportunity to start a new career and the ability to help develop employees.

I like the connection between business and people. Also, I love doing investigations and getting to the facts of the matter/issue/concern and following through with appropriate actions.

I was doing a safety related job and a position in the HR dept became available. My boss said I was too valuable in my current dept and I wasn't able to transfer. I got a new job and mentioned my interest in HR and when something came up at the new company they moved me into that role. It interested me because I enjoy helping people. It is a truly unique position being an advocate for the employee and the company at the same time. Most people I've heard just happen to fall into the HR role!

Bad decision maker? Lol, I really like to help people and in HR you can help people do better financially, emotionally, and physically. I've always had jobs where I was an advocate. Interesting question - I've never met two people who approached their HR career in the same way.

I would 2nd your answer! Also, for me it was when I realized how much time people spend at work (and when you're not at work, how much time people spend thinking/talking aka complaining about work) that I wanted to have a hand in improving that experience!
