Hi I need advice in September I was made redundant after 17years in the job. I am a single parent of two children, I am looking for a career in technical support within the call centre environment. I'm struggling to find a job during the pandemic. Where can I look for a job and also I'm looking to network but I've been unlucky.

Microsoft has been hiring quite a bit. If you are a military spouse, they have some special programs.

I feel like there would be a lot of these jobs available. There is a temp agency that does temp to hire for some very large companies. Aero-Tek I believe is the name. Start there.

Correct several "staffing" agencies offer call center positions. Depending on what type of Tech Support you were doing. Unfortunately, tech support like many other jobs now includes things that aren't "tech/IT" related. I like that many companies now are calling it HELPDESK. It's a more fitting name. Good luck to you.

Several Fortune 100 companies are opening large Tech support centers in 2021 to support their growing Omni- Channel business ( Lowe’s, Amazon, Home Depot) also banks are a good starting point ( Wells Fargo abs BOA).
Best Wishes!!

Anonymous, I encourage you to ask a different question: Rather than where can I look for a job, ask Where do I want to work? Conduct research on companies that meet your essential criteria (which requires you to know what those are) AND are in hiring mode. Don't worry if they've posted the exact position you are qualified for and interested in...if they are in hiring mode, they will be more open to speaking with you.
What do you mean by "I've been unlucky" in your networking? Is that really true - or just a story you are telling yourself? Even if it is true, does it serve you to think your networking efforts are not helping?
I can certainly give you pointers for successful networking, but let's start by finding out what you are doing now.

I concur Lesa. Depending upon what you need financially. There are many companies that offer work from home tech support/Customer service.

I have set a goal from January 2021 I'll start applying for jobs. Yes it is true I have been unlucky, I'm currently soft searching. I have revamped my curriculum vitae also I have been practicing interviewing techniques. I can't apply for jobs at the moment as I'm having my kitchen and bathroom renovated which will be completed in January. I would be grateful for any tips

I agree with Lesa, I would discover where you want to work. Search for companies hiring on this site, LinkedIn, Monster, etc. Pepsi is hiring, Facebook and Instagram are hiring. It depends on your skill set and where you would like to work. Obtaining a job is work but it is worth it. Building connections, include being able to get virtual introductions or your resume passed along.

My problem with LINKEDIN is to really get those good offers you have to pay for their premium services. When you have no income, you can't do that. I haven't had too many good experiences on LinkedIn but other people have.

I feel you, I have been out of work for over two months since the large Catholic health organization outsourced several hundred IT jobs to a company in India. A tip about premium LinkedIn, you can sign up for it and get the first month for free. Before they charge you for the next month just cancel. Best wishes!

Not sure of your background or experience, but you might also check out Jack Henry & Associates - they have openings for technical assistance positions and are currently 100% remote.

Good luck!

I would sign in with all temp or temp to hire agencies. Many of them have long term positions available and dome positions go permanent. Plus, it is money coming in while you continue your search. And, do not limit yourself to call in centers. Other areas need help as well. Also, check out hospitals, put your resume in. I did this, after being a legal secretary for years, and now have a position I love (not a legal secretary position) that I love! Bonus-it is two miles from my house, instead of forty, and the folks I work with are great!

Alorca provides tech reps for Verizon. I would target a lead role.. The pay is not that great but training is paid and it might hold you over while you keep searching for the position that is right for you. Best of luck to you!

Contact your local county and state governments 911 centers and public transit hubs!! Excellent employ, benefits, retirement...of course government never pays as well as private industries, however in return you get annual raises of 2%, 12 paid holidays, good retirements, vested in 5 yrs, they kept employs with paychecks during COVID working remotely, and best trade off for the higher wage, in my opinion, JOB SECURITY. GOOD LUCK! GOD BLESS! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I cannot stress to you enough how important LinkedIn is right now in networking. Like it or not folks, it's like Facebook for work. I have had recruiters contact me directly about roles even though I did not indicate I was looking. Some tips, when you view someone on LinkedIn, they get notified, can you jump in front of someone's face in any other way???? :) There are a lot of hot topics on LinkedIn and a lot of ways to be 'visible'. I am not an expert but I feel like recruiters must get bored looking at resumes all day and like to click through profiles. Good luck!!!

If you choose to go with a temp job, keep looking for a permanent job. I've worked in contract positions and they don't offer affordable health insurance, holiday pay or paid time off other than sick time which they are legally required to provide. A lot of companies also treat their contractors like second class employees. For example, we weren't invited to the fall festival. That might not seem like a big deal but after a while, things like that get draining.
