I am absolutely at my WIT'S END with my current job.
January 6,2024 at 6:21PM UTC
I have been working there for almost a year and I do not feel any form of support whatsoever when it comes to having a personal business matters to tend to (such as doctor's appointments, unexpected car repairs, loss of a family member, etc.)
I started out working in a Temporary role with a company in one department where I was told that I would be setting up events and making reservations in March 2023 and was told I would be able to telework twice a week; however, there was NEVER enough work for me to even consider teleworking so I did not bother to even ask. In mid-May 2023, I was told that for the remaining time of my assignment, that I would need to assist with phone coverage by my Director.
Then in mid-July, I was asked to start assisting 5-7 different departments including front desk coverage for the Receptionist whenever she needs to go to lunch or needs to take off on PTO. I made it clear to my Recruiter at that point that my assignment was no longer a good fit for me and that I would like to be considered for other assignments and she has not found me anything "that makes sense" or that seems promising ever since. She also is very passive saying things like "they must really like you at the company because they keep extending your contract." Plus, every time I let her know how stressed out, anxious, burnt out, and overwhelmed I am, she says "well at least it's almost the weekend" and "at least you don't have any gaps on your resume and you are still getting income." I'm suffering mentally and she does not give a flying rat's tail!!!
My final straw was with the Director who I report to at my job yesterday. We are supposed to get inclement weather this weekend and I was never informed of there being a policy in place for me or Temporary employees in general if there is inclement weather and it is unsafe for me to travel to the office. I asked her "what is the policy if the road conditions are unsafe to travel on to come in to the office? In what situation will I be permitted to telework if there is inclement weather and the roads are unsafe to travel on?"
-Her response was: "if the office is open but you do not feel comfortable coming in you would take the day off. We do not have remote tasks for your position at this time." <-----------This is such a BIG FAT lie!!
All of the job duties I have been performing except for answering the phones at the front desk have been ONLINE!!! For example, I have been completing FMLA paperwork, processing state leave and disability forms, taking Workers' Comp claim information on the phone and sending the information to my coworkers--so how the hell is that not considered REMOTE work.
Also, I find it strange how my coworker who is a Receptionist at the front desk said "they want her to test her laptop out at home to see if it works in case they have inclement weather" but yet she answers phones all day and does not do any online work, but I do!!! Like what is the Director's problem?!
Also, she said to me last summer "if you do not plan to be in the office by 1:00pm, you should just plan to take off a full day." When I asked her what the policy was in regard to this when it comes to urgent car repairs or personal appointments, she said "it does not make sense to her for me to come in the office for only a few hours." Oh but you make sure you get paid because you're an Executive and you're so important and you can't understand that this is my life so if I take the whole day off, then I wont get paid ANYTHING!!
I am someone who has shown up to work EVERYDAY and ALWAYS asks people if they need help with work even on the days that I am not required to assist certain departments with work duties and THIS is how I get treated?! This place is so unethical.
Honestly, I have been to hell and back since I have been working at this place. My nephew passed in November while I was working here and the sorry staffing agency I work for did not even offer me Bereavement leave (which is absolutely DESPICABLE!). My coworker and my Supervisor did not give a damn because all they cared about doing was teleworking. When they were in the office, they could have asked me "I know you are grieving over the loss of your nephew, so did you want me to cover the phones for you today?" NOTHING! These piece of crap businesses just treat Temporary employees like we are not worth ANYTHING, that we do not have any rights, that we do not matter, and that we do not make a difference AT ALL in the workplace. If I had another job lined up or another stream of income coming in, then I would quit and never look back on Monday because this place is HORRIBLE to work for.
Has anyone ever been through anything like this before? How did you respond and deal with something so unethical and unfair like this?

I relocated for the role and achieved my goals.
Due to new management I’m out of a job and struggling to find a new position while still paying for the relocation. Losing confidence in my ability as I achieved my objectives and out of a job due to new management.

Can my employer make me pay for fees related to the licenses required to do the job?
Let me explain: I used to have a job in insurance, which required licensing in multiple states, which the company helped obtain. When I left the job, I let everything lapse, and now one of the states wants me to pay a fine of $500 if I want to reinstate it, in addition to retaking the test anyway. The new company not only isn't paying me for the time spent studying for the test (whereas the previous one did), but they also want me to cover the $500 fine all on my own. Is that okay for them to do? The insurance license is person-specific, not company-specific, but clearly is necessary to work for them, so I can see it both ways. Curious to hear everyone's perspective.

I am being targeted for taking FMLA time.
I am being lied about and given a written warning at work that is untrue. My daughter was diagnosed with a serous medical illness and then I was diagnosed with breast cancer the next year. Therefore, I had to take two FMLA leaves in the past two years. I am still working but fear I will be unfairly terminated. I just started to see a lawyer. Has anyone ever been terminated for FMLA retaliation ? Any advice? Thank you!

How many of you network in your down time?
I'm on LinkedIn everyday, including Saturday and Sunday.
Friday afternoon as I was being driven out of town for the weekend, I was on LinkedIn looking for jobs and sent a connection request to a lady that's hiring for a position that I'm interested in and qualified for.
She accepted it within minutes.
Thinking outside the box for the win.

Laid off and trying to find anything.
My company sent an after hours teams meeting to say they were shutting down the office effective immediately at the beginning of the month. I have applied to many without anything in response. Almost done my degree so trying to find something in that which also aligns with what I have done in the past.
