Reason for Separation

I separated from my last employer bc my values no longer aligned with their mission in regard to using clean energy. During interviews, I’m not sure if this is the best answer. I also left bc my manager was replaced. Any recommendations on how to form the best answer- in terms of why I left?

Suggestion for showcasing this more positively: "While I've learned a lot at x-company doing XYZ, I am looking for a way to do XYZ and focus on XYZ instead."

I agree with Sugey. Your response should focus on the positive and demonstrate that you are looking forward, eager for new opportunities - opportunities to grow. Resist making negative remarks about your previous employer. You can frame your response such that you demonstrate yourself to be someone who is proactive in owning her career and charting her path. Good luck!

I agree!. Keep it positive. Mention that your values were no longer aligned and that you felt you could not contribute 100% any longer. Than mention how those values align and how it will beneficial to the role you are seeking with the interview. Good luck!!

Great question. The best approach is to keep your response short, sweet, and lead with the positive. For example, I joined 'XX because it gave me an opportunity to work with a team and company that I admire. Unfortunately, there was a shift in management, which prompted me to leave and explore external opportunities". The next KEY part is to couple why you're leaving, with why you're interested in the company that you're interviewing with.

I think it is absolutely appropriate to say that with a change in management you did not feel you your personal values or skills were aligned with the direction the company was headed in. neve be afraid to stand up for who you are. Companies want to know you can think for yourself and that your not just a "sheeple". Best of luck!

I completely agree with your advice. I also love the word "sheeple" as it is humorous and spot-on!

It's fair to say that you outgrew your current role following a change in management, that you are seeking new challenges that more closely align with your personal values of (fill in the blank) and skills of (fill in the blank).
