I started a new job this week! I’m super excited, and very relieved after a long, long job search.
My role, which is new, comes with two direct reports. They haven’t been hired yet, although my manager and the VP of our group, as well as HR, interviewed a promising candidate. The plan was that I would get to speak with her as well, but she was offered the job the same day I started. Today, I learned she accepted it.
So far, I like my team a lot, and I get the sense they respect me and appreciate what I bring to the table. (I also have more experience - in the case of my immediate manager, WAY more experience - than they do, but that’s a story for another time.) However, I can’t help but be a tad annoyed that I didn’t even get to talk to this person before the final decision was made.
We each want to speak to the other before she starts. That’s fine. Trying to be open-minded, but, again, irritated. This person was hired to be on my team, and I thought I would have some say in the matter.
How do I handle this moving forward? Any advice on how the conversation should go? Any thoughts on the whole situation?
