Considering a career as a therapist

Hi ladies! I'm considering a transition to becoming a therapist. This is something I've always wanted to do and right now I'm in the crux of either accepting a promotion or going forward with this therapist trajectory. Are there any therapists / psychology enthusiasts that are comfortable with sharing their experience in the field?

Just a little virtual push to move in the direction that you believe will make you feel most fulfilled. And if you're still a bit unsure do a bit more self-discovery (feel free to message me for a few ideas). Good luck!

Hello Anmol, I majored in Psychology in my undergrad, and I am currently taking up my Masters in Psychology, hopefully to get my license as a Psychologist/child therapist. :) I agree with Tierra, first things first, you should have an idea on a specific route you would like to take. Maybe assess yourself, about issues you are most comfortable talking about with clients. Also, consider what is your target clientele for therapy - children, teenagers, family, couple, special interest group, etc. and the skill set you have that would cater to your chosen target of clients. You can also take into consideration the techniques you want to use for therapy, what you have practiced so far that worked for you, or would want to practice. Hope this could help, if you have any more questions, just let us know :) stay safe - Jody

Hello Anmol, Could you clarify a bit more on what draws you into the field of therapy? I'd love to support any thoughts/ideas coming up for you about your interest in the field. Warmly, Estephania

I currently work in the field of psychology with a specialty in assessment and will have my license as a licensed psychological associate in November. If you have any specific questions, please let me know. Different states have different expectations and it also depends on which specific route you would like to take (i.e. social work, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or counseling). Each field has overlap, but also some limitations to what they can and cannot do.

I am not a therapist, but I have been looking at a career in Grief Counseling. I've been doing research on programs that would allow me to continue to work full-time and still seek the education and training that I need to gain the skills/credentials needed for this adjacent career switch.
