They don't want a paper trail that would uncover the issued in the management of the department.
Grisel Scarantino, Career and Work-Life Fulfillment Coach
Career Coach here- that sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you did the exact thing you were supposed to do in the first place: bring up your concern. The problem is, they wouldn’t disclose who said you made the request, leaving you no other option but to try and clear up the miscommunication a different way. You did nothing wrong.
If you’re asking the question about whether you should look for another job, you likely already know the answer. Your gut knows.
To help you interpret what your gut is telling you, here are a few questions for you to consider:
How long have you been with this company? Industry?
In the time you’ve been there, have you noticed that is just how they roll? Was there an honest communication breakdown somewhere before it got to you that simply was a mistake?
Are there other aspects of this company/role that you’re dissatisfied with to the point that it makes the most sense to cut your losses and start looking elsewhere?
How did you feel there in the work environment and with your working relationships before this incident occurred?
The unfortunate truth is that frustrating situations in professional environments are inevitable. But if we find ourselves in situations where there is no “right way”
no matter what we do, then we need to ask ourselves whether it serves us to stay in it.
I’d be happy to chat more with you about this if you’d like. I offer complimentary calls.
