Feeling slighted.

I am so happy to get a offer last week but I find I was pregant. I notice my new company but they do not hire me even though my experience was qualified this job. Now I am sad because I do not have a job because I am a workaholic. How can I adjust myself

I interviewed for a position today (it's a state job-Department of Revenue) and they emailed me asking me to complete a background check form and also asked for a 3rd reference. I really don't have another good reference. I could get great references at my current job but I am not ready to let any of them know I am job searching. Prior to the position I am in now, I worked at the transportation department for 3 months. I had to leave because we moved out of state. The department head was upset to see me go and said she would be an enthusiastic reference for me if I needed one (she even emailed me after I left just to reiterate what a valuable person I was). The problem is that I did not put this position on my resume. It was so short and seemed irrelevant. Plus, you only have so much space on a resume. Is it a bad idea to use her as a reference and just give a brief explanation as to why it is not on the resume? My only other option is an old friend that I started a business with back in 2013. She changed her mind a few months in and left me to build the business on my own. I did build it and sold it for a profit 3 years later. Would that even be a decent reference since it was so long ago and the partnership portion short lived? It is also not on my resume but just because of the time period. Basically until a year and a half ago I was mostly a stay at home mom that just did whatever was necessary at any given time. Now my kids are grown and I am trying to navigate building a career late in life. This is hard. Any advice on my best option would be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I need some outside-the -box thinking. I have a demanding leadership role that means working 45-50 hours a week. I have a commute and two kids. I am divorced and have 50/50 custody. On my weeks with the kids, I feel like I am burning the candle at both ends. I try to get a headstart on email when I wake up. My youngest has trouble getting going in the morning, so it is challenging to leave before 7:45. After work, I rush through traffic to get them from childcare by 6:00 p.m. I pick my oldest, who is in high school, up from work a few days a week at 9:00 p.m. (They don’t drive.) The youngest does her bedtime routine in advance to save time but can’t fall asleep, and it starts all over again. I have already flexed my start time by 30 min. I would have the youngest walk to school, but I am working with them to manage their emotions, so I can’t feel confident they won’t do something unsafe if upset (not look for cars before crossing, etc.). For now, I feel safer dropping them off at before-school care. Flexing anything with the co-parent to divide and conquer is simply not an option. Feel exhausted and like I am treading water at this point. *I’m also going through menopause, so I’m having a lot of trouble falling and staying asleep, which makes mornings even harder. I really need to get to work earlier and have some time in the evenings, but how?

I'm just trying to see if getting out of this in person meeting is even a possibility. I remember last year when my Director, Supervisor, & I worked for 3 days in a row at an outdoor event in the scorching heat & my director said we could use liberal leave the next day. Then, I requested to use it during our in person meeting & told them I had a birthday dinner for my sister to go to. And my Director said "we really need you there." So there's that. How inconvenient... It's always something. The HR representative who is scheduling interviews did not ask me what my availability was or my preference. I feel like if I don't automatically say "yes, I am available to interview on that particular date & time," then they could just move on to the next candidate and not give me a chance to be considered for the job. What should I do?

This isn't for me as my job is currently stable. But can anyone give me advice on job hunting in your 60s? My husband, who is 62, may be losing his job (lay off, not firing). He is diabetic and really needs health insurance. And we're just so terrified about the job market and his age. He's been an adjunct professor for YEARS because he could never find a full time teaching position. Everything was stable until the pandemic and now the university is looking at deep budget cuts that could affect him. He's been able to hang onto his position and insurance for the last 5 years but this looks potentially dire and I'm scared. My job has terrible health insurance (high deductible plan where as a couple we'd have to pay almost 12k before it even kicked in, which is not doable for us on our salaries). So even if we get him insurance through my work, we're still in a tight space. I already work full time and a part time side gig. I can't work more than I do. Anyone been through this have suggestions for us?

My director resigned, kind of suddenly. If the leaders wanted me they would have come to me. They didn't. But I'm going to apply anyway. There is no way I would be really considered but I am hoping even as I tell myself there is no hope. How do you keep yourself motivated when there is no hope of future growth?
