Career transition advice from education to organization development
Hi, I'm wondering if any of you know the best way to work around the lack of experience in a certain field when making a career change? Now, more than ever, I think many people are applying for jobs that use their transferable skills more than previous experiences.
Quick background, I have worked in the special education field for the past 10 years and focused on teaching technology to students with autism for the past six. In 2018 I got my master's degree in organization development and change. I've been applying to many jobs and I've been passed over because I don't have the previous experience the job description is looking for.
It's that catch 22,how can I have the experience if I've never been hired in the field due to lack of experience? I'm very careful to read the job description and these are positions I truly believe if given the opportunity I would excel at.
So I'm looking for any advice or suggestions on how to successfully transition careers when I don't have the previous experience in that field. I'm sure anything written here could help some of the other women in this situation as well. Thank you for your time!
