I would like to hear your thoughts on estimating your experience level at work! My husband and I are 2 years out of college, where we both graduated in architecture. Since we have the same degree and experience level, but work in different offices, it's been great to compare salaries, responsibilities, work environments, etc. Recently, my husband switched offices and was negotiating his salary. He requested a salary based on averages for people with 3 years experience. I found this odd since we've only been working for 2 years since we graduated. He said that he has 3 years experience because he is including multiple summer internships and part-time professional work during college. Do you all consider including part-time or internship work in your "years of experience"? For clarification, we both worked every summer during school in architecture firms doing similar work to what we do now (just with less responsibility). These were not "pick up the coffee" kind of jobs.
