I would let your manager know. You can offer to take a 30 mins lunch instead of 1 hour so that you can leave at 5:30pm. My previous employer let me skip my lunch so that I could leave an hour early (I was a salaried employee). Have you already started? Some departments have stated hours but often let workers choose a different start time as long as they work during "core business hours". If all else fails, you'll need to find someone who can pick your child up by 6pm

I would first see if you can find someone who provides very part-time childcare for pickup. There are plenty of people who offer this as I used to work at a daycare and had plenty of part-time sitters pick up the kids EOD and babysit at their home for a couple of hours until the parents got home. You can make a posting on care.com

I second this! I did this during college, a few hours every afternoon. Parents gradually rolled in some extra tasks, like meal prep and laundry for a bump to my hourly rate. It could be a great way to help you balance and potentially give you a back up sitter if daycare is closed etc.
