Video Techniques to Enhance Your Next Zoom Meeting

With the majority of us still working at home, we are having to rely on video and Zoom calls more and more. Have you tried any of these tips below?
These tips below will help put you, your organization, and your brand in the best light.
FLIP THE SCRIPT
You can do much more with live video than hold meetings. Consider hosting a Q&A chat with customers, sharing how your company is serving your community, or live-streaming an event.
DON’T CHANGE FOR THE CHANNEL
Just because we’re all working from home doesn’t mean we should leave professionalism at the office. You can be authentic and relatable and still stay on brand. Be mindful about what you say and how it may be interpreted in the current context.
TRY THESE TECH TIPS
Whether you’re using a desktop, a laptop, or a smartphone, there are some basic things you can do to ensure people hear you loud and clear.
With smartphones, it’s all about stability. Use a tripod if you can — or simply keep your phone close to your body to minimize movements.
Switch your phone to airplane or do-not-disturb mode.
Lighting is critical. Indoors, try an inexpensive lighting kit designed for online content creators — or simply face a window to capture the sunlight. Either way, the light source should be placed behind your device. If there’s a window or other light source behind you, turn away — or close the blinds to avoid backlighting.
Unless the smartphone has dual lenses, don’t use the zoom feature — it will pixelate the image. Instead, just move the device closer to the subject.
Use the exposure lock (AE/AF Lock) to maintain a consistent lighting level.
Consider using an external microphone positioned close to you. There are a variety of wireless mics — and even earbuds — that will pick up your voice better than an on-board microphone.
If you’re recording a video to be viewed later, use an editing tool to correct errors and optimize the audio and video.
When you’re in a meeting on a platform like Zoom, remember to look at the camera. It may feel natural to look at other callers’ faces, but look into the lens if you want to mimic eye contact.
Adjust your device so the camera is at eye level. Ideally, position yourself with your chest, shoulders, and head in the frame — not just your face. Standing is okay too, and it can make you seem energetic and authoritative.
PROJECT YOUR BEST

Consider doing a few test runs to work out any potential technical issues.
To help others maintain focus, clean up the area behind your computer or phone. De-cluttering the background includes minimizing off-camera noises and other distractions.
Don’t multi-task. If you need to step away briefly, mute your audio and video.
Consider your environment and dress. Show you’re a professional who can be trusted. Wear work-appropriate clothing and move your home office out of the bedroom.
Find a quiet space and give family members a heads-up that you’re filming or on a video call.

I recently was laid off from my job of 7+ years.
I sort of fell into the role, and I'm not sure if it's what I want to continue doing. The issue is, it's fairly difficult to break into a new industry when all of my professional experience is in another field. I'm not even quite sure what direction I'd like to go in, but I'm really fed up with the corporate world, and would really like to explore other options. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have an interview tomorrow and the place i am interviewing with wants me to fill out an "Acknowledgement of Education and Experience Verification" form that requires for me to select 1 of 2 options: 1) Yes, my current employer does know that I am interviewing and the agency's Human Resources office has my permission to verify my work, both performance and experience, with my current employer at this time OR 2) No, I do not wish to have the agency's Human Resources Office contact my present employer at this time.
If i am selected for a position and accept, I understand that my current employer will then be asked to verify my experience.
I currently work for a Temp agency and my Recruiter (contact at my agency) knows I am going to be interviewing tomorrow at the place I am interviewing at; however, the job I am on a Temporary assignment for does not know. Based on the form and options I have to choose from above, should I tell the company I am doing a Temporary assignment for that I am interviewing for the agency tomorrow? Apparently, they have to verify my work (consisting of performance and experience) with my current job. I don't want to have to worry about them telling me not to come back because they know I took off of work to interview for a job. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

I’m a back up person
I recently started this new job back in October. I was assigned accounts and I have my own task well they had me back up person to this girl and now they are having me back up to this guy who is planning on leaving for a month. I’m still so much a newbie I haven’t at all picked up speed to do my work and cover someone else’s work. My last job did this too me as well but it was when lay offs happened. I was a back up person and got cross trained doing other task. My job ended up being a mesh of 3 different jobs no extra pay or a job title change. I’m starting to have fear it’s going to happen again. I experienced severe burn out that made me feel like I was going crazy. What can I do to prevent that from happening?
