COVID changed a lot about my academic plans. I thought I’d have a summer internship working abroad at an organization working on education in emergencies. I thought I’d graduate in December with a job lined up. I thought I’d still be in Philadelphia.
Instead, I graduated early in August while remotely interning with World Learning. And while I didn’t have the direct field experience I was hoping for, it did allow me to begin training to become a New York City Emergency Management Department volunteer. Today is my CERT graduation and I can’t wait to start working within my own community while I continue the job search process.
It’s an amazing opportunity, especially during this ongoing pandemic, and I’m grateful to be able to continue learning about emergency response and serving in New York City.
