Do you know that your inner bully has your best interest in mind? I know, shocking. I gave a presentation to Microsoft last week on self-compassion. After researching the sage words of the mother of self-compassion, Kristin Neff, I learned that our inner bully is our brain's way of protecting us from failing or falling. If that bully can talk you out of stepping up, taking risks, or reaching beyond the precipice, then you will stay safe. But what fun is that? When you hear your inner critic, turn and face her. Soothe her and let her know you are very aware of what she is up to. Tell her, "Thank you, but I have got this one."
