CUIT offers a wide range of benefits to help our employees manage the demands of work and life, with specific benefits geared to working women. This includes generous benefits for fertility treatment, adoption and surrogacy assistance, and up to 10 weeks of paid family leave following the birth, adoption or fostering of a child; to care for a family member with a serious health condition; or for qualifying needs arising out of a family member’s covered active duty in the military.

Breastfeeding Support Program includes private lactation rooms equipped with hospital-grade breast pumps, on all Columbia campuses. Breast pump attachments are available for purchase below retail cost. Breastfeeding workshops are also offered each semester. 


The Women's Health Programs, available through UnitedHealthcare (UHC), are open to all faculty and staff and their covered dependents.

The Back-Up Care Advantage Program®, provides care for adults/elders, children, or yourself when normal care arrangements are interrupted or when short-term care is required but you still need to perform your academic or work responsibilities. For these situations, Columbia University has contracted with Bright Horizons Family Solutions to provide access to 150 hours of back-up care per year; available 24/7, nationwide and in some international locations.
