Our Women's Initiative was created in 2019 to double down on our commitment to making Northwestern Mutual the place for women to join, stay and grow. That initiative takes a systemic look across our corporate, field and consumer initiatives. On a more localized level, our Women in Technology (WIT), Women's ERG and VIBE, (Visible Intentional Black Excellence) work to create community, visibility and advancement through programs such as mentor pairings, presentation coaching, networking and more. And in the field, the Women's Field Association has 2,500+ active women and allies and serves as a magnet for attracting and developing women in financial services.
In support of work-life balance, Northwestern Mutual recognizes the need for flexibility around when and where work is performed. enhancing the employee experience and supporting productivity and performance. Many corporate employees work in the office some days during the week and at the home the remainder, with 3 days in the office/2 at home being the most common arrangement. We also have different types of situational flexibility, depending on the job and the needs of the team, including fully remote staff. Northwestern Mutual equips employees with standard technology to perform job requirements from nearly any location - remote or in office.
Northwestern Mutual provides 12 weeks paid parental leave to support new parents and to assist in balancing work and family matters. Parental Leave provides eligible employees with a period of paid time off for activities related to the care and wellbeing of their newborn or adopted child.
Northwestern Mutual provides eligible employees twelve (12) consecutive weeks of 100% paid parental leave to the parent to care for the child immediately following the birth or the coming of the child into custody, care and control of the parent. If both parents are Northwestern Mutual Employees, both parents are eligible to receive the full parental leave. The Adoption/Surrogacy Policy provides financial assistance for families who adopt a child under age 16. For a regular full-time employee, the adoption assistance benefit amount is up to $10,000 of eligible expenses. For eligible part-time employees, the reimbursement amount is up to $5,000. The company has a Mother’s Room in each building that provides a private place to pump and is equipped with a refrigerator, sink, microwave and small storage area for your pumping belongings. To provide assistance in finding care, we partner with Bright Horizons which ca assist in finding caregivers. It also provides discounted local, high-touch nanny placement services and discounted tuition for full-time care at select partner centers.
We offer two weeks of time off annually for care-giver time. And NM provides support and assistance to caregivers through Wellthy care coordinators. Wellthy caregiver support provides care support when caring for a loved one including; scheduling appointments, filling prescriptions, sourcing in home aide, etc.
