Alexis Roizen is a Senior Product Designer at Sysdig. Her career has spanned graphic design, website design, brand & logo design, environmental design and digital product design. Alexis is a passionate behavior designer who strives to help real people accomplish their goals through software tools that easify the process.
Before life at Sysdig, she was the founding designer / Chief Design Officer for a crypto-email start up and the creative director of a marketing firm, where she was responsible for the brands of more than 250 small businesses.
In Alexis’ words: Working at Sysdig lets me be the best employee and the best mom at the exact same time. I don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. I love Sysdig’s benefit options so I get a tax free daycare reimbursement. It helps me save so much more money and feels like a nice bonus every few months!
I strive to bring more women into tech and am a cheerleader for following your own interests at work so that work always stays interesting. I think women should generally speak up more and make their voices heard in company conversations. Have an idea? Speak up! Want a task or a role? Speak up! Don’t wait for someone else to offer you something, and don’t let your plate be filled with someone else’s agenda. Work with your organization to make your own agenda for the work you actually want to contribute to the company. And keep speaking up!
Shanta (she/her) is responsible for worldwide demand generation at Sysdig. She has more than 20 years of experience across all marketing functions including integrated marketing, operations, global/field demand, customer success, and product marketing. Shanta is recognized as a GTM & demand generation strategist with a proven record to build scalable, high-performing global programs focused on net new logo acquisition and customer expansion.
Before joining Sysdig, Shanta held senior marketing roles at enterprise security and software companies including Palo Alto Networks, Nimble Storage (acquired by HPE), and Blue Coat Systems (acquired by Symantec).
Shanta holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.
Karen (she/her) has joined Sysdig as Chief Financial Officer and will play an instrumental role in managing the company’s growth and strategy. Karen is an experienced and accomplished executive having served both pre-IPO and public companies. She brings over 20 years of experience across corporate finance, accounting and compliance, and investor relations. She has held executive positions at a wide network of industry leaders including PagerDuty, Uber Technologies, Pandora Media, CBS Interactive and Virgin America.
Throughout her career Karen has scaled finance teams in high growth and global organizations to deliver stakeholder value – most notably at Uber Technologies. She also led early IPO readiness at Uber and Virgin America. Karen has deep experience in M&A having participated in and led many aspects of nearly a dozen transactions including the successful sale of Pandora Media to Sirius XM. Karen has also played a key role in developing strategic positioning having built and led the investor relations function at PagerDuty.
She holds a BA in Accounting from Southern Methodist University. Karen is an executive director of a non-profit board, the Golden West Chapter of the ALS Association.
Yating Niu leads the Financial Planning and Analysis function, which owns the company’s overall financial planning and forecasting process. She joined Sysdig about 5 months ago and prior to that held similar roles in high tech startups/IPO companies such as Cohesity, Nimblestorage and 3PAR. FP&A is a very unique function where people build connections between operating decisions and financial impact; and through robust forecasting processes and data analytics, Yating and her team help business functions to make informed decisions and measure progress against the company's financial targets.
Her favorite thing about being at Sysdig is working in a fast-paced environment and partnering with a lot of very smart, driven and passionate people and the ability to take quick actions without red tapes or bureaucracy.
For job seekers who are pursuing new opportunities, she advises, “Talk to people (your team and your partner) and check if you have shared value and can easily build a connection.” To differentiate oneself to get ahead, Yating suggests: know what you are good at; hire people who are better than you; and do not be afraid to take on challenges because you may fail.
What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations? In Yating’s opinion, women generally have better emotional intelligence and are good at building relationships and bonding with the team. Along with strong technical skills, women should leverage the EQ to take on leadership roles and help companies drive cultural diversity and gender equality
In her role, Yating brings experiences acquired in the past 3 startups (2 of which went through successful IPOs) on how to build and scale FP&A function to support a high growth business. Bring a leadership style that truly values the overall “well being” of the employee instead of simply “results-oriented”.
On the weekends, she loves spending time with my family in a park and hiking along the coastal line.
Lyndsay Kirby is a Corporate Account Executive with Sysdig and has been in this role for about a year and a half. Previously Lyndsay was with Hewlett Packard Enterprise working in their Storage division. She came over to Sysdig, eager and excited to see firsthand what Keegan (CRO) and Suresh (CEO) had to offer. Lynsday had heard so many amazing things from the Nimble Storage team that worked with them in the past so when it came to working at a company for them, she was extremely excited to see how she could succeed with Sysdig.
Lyndsay says this role has already taught her so much in the year and a half she’s been here. It has allowed her to work with such a variety of different companies in different verticals as well as work with employees varying from individual contributors to C-level executives. This role has allowed her to grow so much within her sales career becoming the ultimate foundation for the many years to come as well as expanding on a base she already had.
One of Lyndsay’s favorite things about Sysdig is its startup culture. Coming from a fortune 500 company, having a smaller scale and more of an impact on the business has been so rewarding.
For her part, Lyndsay hopes to bring a new outlook to sales, specifically women in tech. For so long it’s choose one or the other. Working at Sysdig she is able to push herself professionally and grow personally.
For job seekers who are pursuing new opportunities, Lyndsay suggests showing who you really are; your true personality is the best thing you can do when interviewing for a new opportunity. There have been so many times where she has tried to mold herself to be the best fit for that specific role or what she knew they were looking for. But when she is truly herself, honest with her experience, and lets her personality shine is when things go best. Not only will that help you be more comfortable in the process but ensure you are being placed in an opportunity that is best fit for you.
Her advice on how to stand out? Being a curious learner is something that can always set you apart. You need to constantly be asking questions and showing your willingness to learn and mold. Something else that Lyndsay has noticed that has been effective is consistency. People recognize when you follow through on your word and that needs to always be your first priority.
When it comes to strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations, Lyndsay says, “You always need to be advocating for yourself.” When your palms are sweaty and your stomach is doing flips, say something. This is something that her mentor, Jillene Golez, always told her!
On the weekends, Lyndsay volunteers with the Miracle League as their Director of Bowling and has been privileged enough to spend her Saturday mornings with 108 special needs children at the bowling alley! Outside of that, you will find Lyndsay at her favorite local pilates or cycling studio.
Renee Riberdy is the Director of Human Resources for Sysdig and has been in her current role for almost 3 years. In this role, she works with the HR team to support Sysdig’s growing team of almost 500 employees globally. Her role is very multi-functional; however, much of Renee’s focus is being a strategic Business Partner to managers and employees, helping support and develop programs and initiatives aimed at creating a world class employee experience and helping foster a positive culture at Sysdig where employees are engaged and can grow and develop in their roles. Prior to joining Sysdig, her was a Senior HR Manager for GlobalLogic, a full lifecycle product development services company for almost 4 years.
Renee’s role at Sysdig is extremely important to her. She feels she has grown tremendously as an HR professional over the past almost 3 years at Sysdig and enjoys working for a company that truly values their employees, as well as values a high level of collaboration with the Human Resources function as a strategic partner to the business.
Renee’s favorite perk that Sysdig offers is the level of flexibility employees have in getting their jobs done. They do not have to start or end work at a particular time of day. Rather the company offers a high level of flexibility in determining the work schedule that works best for each individual employee.
For her part, Renee says there are many things she hopes that she successfully brings to her role. Namely, she wants to be seen as a strategic partner and value add to the business and the employees and managers she supports. For Renee, success as an HR professional in her role would include helping to ensure a world class employee experience and culture for our employees, along with putting programs in place that allow for the growth and development of our team members.
Renee’s top advice for job seekers who are pursuing new opportunities? “Make sure you take some time to understand what you are looking for in a new opportunity,” she says. Similarly, ensure you give yourself adequate time to understand and research the company and role that would be the best fit for both you and the company. Do not settle for just any role!
What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations? It’s an interesting question for Renee as it really begs the question of what exactly classifies a “prominent role?” Is it based on title, level, span of control, or something else? She thinks having a “prominent role” can mean different things for different people. Renee isn’t sure that one should focus as much energy on selling the benefit of a “prominent role” to women. Rather, she suggests, “I’d argue it’s more critical to understand your goals from a career standpoint and ensure the roles you accept and take on put you in the best position to achieve those goals.”
On Saturday mornings, Renee usually finds herself either hanging out with her kids at home or punching and kicking at her body combat class that she attends as often as possible.
