"The more senior a role you are in will substantially increase demands of your time and virtually eliminate any work life balance. Executives are not so inclined to be flexible due to deliverables and outcomes that are due to lack of communication amongst teams."

"The company values diversity and "a more human resource" but you need to do your part (it doesn't just "happen"): if you need to be at your child's school/game, then speak up and say you need to go -- determine if meetings can be rescheduled, etc. without impacting deliverables/deadlines. Also, if you need a day (or all-time) remote, then suggest it. It all depends on your role and manager -- but you need to do your part: It won't be offered if you don't ask...."

"Corporate stresses flexibility and focus on balance, but it has a LOT to do with your manager. It's up to you to set the boundaries of when you will/won't work (in terms of hours/days). "

"Part of the paid leave was my vacation time. You may be able to take a week or two more than FMLA (unpaid), but you need to work it out with your manager. Also see if you can come back part time. They tend to be flexible."
