"Research details about your manager ahead of time. Interview them about their management style. Find past employees to speak to vet any concerns. Do not assume a female manager will be the most supportive; most male managers are equally, if not, more so supportive of employees regardless of gender. Except some of the Israelis (mostly on the engineer side) who come from a culture that is still male-dominated. "

"Culturally the company has seen a negative turn in morale since the Verizon acquisition and MSFT partnership. Quality of life and positive attitude is dependent on what team you work for (management-based). The marketing organization is 90% female but is fiercely competitive and cliquish. I've been with the company nearly a decade and in this current environment very rarely feel safe in my position or that my (female) manager has my back. "

"The company was set up to support people out in that there are multiple people involved in a book of business. If someone is out things don't fall apart completely. The company is generally staffed appropriately. There is a lot to know and to learn and it's always pretty crazy but the people are nice and smart but not too smart... they also like to get things done and grab a beer once in a while. It was one of the happiest times of my life working at AOL."

"I've worked here for 6 years and it's not so much that woman are treated differently as much as anyone over the age of 30-35 is. AOL prides itself on being a company for working women and that may be in Dulles where they have onsite daycare and are able to leave at 530pm but that's not the case in the other offices at all."
