"Research details about your manager ahead of time. Interview them about their management style. Find past employees to speak to vet any concerns. Do not assume a female manager will be the most supportive; most male managers are equally, if not, more so supportive of employees regardless of gender. Except some of the Israelis (mostly on the engineer side) who come from a culture that is still male-dominated. "

"The company was set up to support people out in that there are multiple people involved in a book of business. If someone is out things don't fall apart completely. The company is generally staffed appropriately. There is a lot to know and to learn and it's always pretty crazy but the people are nice and smart but not too smart... they also like to get things done and grab a beer once in a while. It was one of the happiest times of my life working at AOL."
