"Caterpillar really wants to improve in this area but is currently constrained by some cultural barriers. The executive office has made a significant commitment to improvement in this area. Five of the top technical leaders at Caterpillar are women, one group President and 4 VP's"

"It is a male dominated company that is working (slowly) to remedy the disproportion of males in leadership. The very top does well and the bottom to entry management, it's the mid to executive management roles that are hard to navigate without real help and where it starts to get more out of balance."

"There seems to be some secret code that must be broken in order to move up beyond Director level. I truly believe the company wants to improve in the gender equality space but just doesn't quite know how to get started in a way that won't feel like an effort to fill a quota. This might be one time that being so metrics driven is a bad thing. My fear is the tendency would be to "check the box" and move on. While the maternity policy is better than where I came from, it and other policies should be reviewed to better align with today's workforce. The company tends to value working insanely long hours more than it does efficiency and productivity. To be attractive to a younger and changing workforce Caterpillar's culture will have to change."

"The gender divide is HUGE. It's nowhere near industry norms. My division is only 14% female and that's including hourly workers. They don't typically hire external, which keeps the divide large. Great women's employee resource groups. They seem to want to do better in this space, but never really do anything about it. Very common to hear female leaders described as too aggressive or lacking of confidence, when they are solid performers."
