"The policies at Caterpillar are changing to become more family friendly and adjustable work schedules. The real problem is unconscious bias that permeates the culture, particularly in the division I work in. It is very male dominated, aggressive, "I" focused and truly a "good 'ole boys" network. Assignments are given based on who you know and whomever followed a very traditional/prescribed recipe of previous assignments to get to a leadership position. There is not much diversity of thought or valued experience. "

"My first time taking maternity leave (in 2002) my company policy was only 4 weeks paid maternity leave, unless otherwise written by doctor's orders. I had my doctor release me after 6 weeks, which is how I got a full 6 weeks maternity leave, which at the time was the government standard (which my Fortune 50 company wasn't following). "
