"Northwestern Mutual is a place that truly embraces and develops each person on an individual basis. I have been here for 5 years and have felt very supported in a variety of management roles and now as a Financial Advisor. This company has seen me through getting married, losing parents, having kids, and many other life changes. I feel like I have a team of people who inspire me, build my confidence, and are open and flexible in working with me and my evolving life. It is a phenomenal culture and place to work. "

"This job has allowed me to create a life where I can be present for my kids as a single mom and also be building a career that has no ceiling. There is still work to be done to have women be equals in the financial industry, but I love getting to change the landscape of what it looks like, and am grateful every day for the strong women around me. We need more!"

"The industry is male dominated, especially the sales roles. The sales role has a lot of individual milestones and accomplishments. Each advisors is primarily responsible for their own business. This can make it feel like there isn't a collaborative supportive work space. Once someone shows promise they will be tapped on the shoulder for leadership opportunities and recognition. There is structured mentorship if paired with a good mentor women would enjoy working here. Because there are more men in the industry mentors are often men who do not experience the challenges women might face. What I appreciate the most is that the company is making an effort to recruit and grow women advisors. There is a strong commitment to making the workplace inclusive, offices are recognized and supported for their efforts in growing women advisors and it has stayed in the forefront of the company for a number of years. "

"This is based on a staff position not a sales position. There is work that needs to be completed timely while remaining organized for me being in the office is the best place to complete work, but coming in early and leaving early is well accepted work practice. I work from home a few times a month as long as the work is being completed and email and voicemail are responded to quickly there is no concern. "

"My manager allows me a lot of autonomy in making decisions. Acts more as a sounding board who gives great advice that I can talk through my decisions with rather than someone who is going to take over or tell me what to do. I'm more likely to be given the desired outcome and be allowed to come up with the process of getting there myself. "
