The benefits of working within UTC are never-ending. They are very flexible and offer many opportunities for continued training and education. It is easy to find women willing to mentor other women.

If your manager shares the culture vision and governs themselves accordingly then it is a great place to work, as Otis is.

If you want a "job" with work life balance you can find it here. If you actually want a "career" you may have a hard time moving ahead. This is still a very old-fashioned company.

Flexibility depends on the job. For most jobs the flexibility is good.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    10 paid / 6 unpaid

Policies have changed recently for the better since my experience. Amount of paid leave may depend on sick time which is based on years of service.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. I am happy in my current job but a lot of the experience is dependent on who your direct supervisor is. The Women's Forum is very active in supporting initiatives for women but moving ahead can still be difficult. The company is saying the right things regarding women and diversity initiatives but not following through on them yet in all areas.

There are good policies on flex times and flexible work arrangements. Some divisions allow for part time employment and transitions between part time and full time.

Some good policies but unevenly deployed. The attitudes towards women vary. In some areas there is very early promotion of women into leadership positions they are not qualified or equipped for.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. Depends on the position and business unit as to whether I would recommend. There are many good opportunities, but some to avoid.
