"It's a good place if you need a job right away. The benefits are good. But 90% of the jobs at USAA is on the phones. It is one big call center, with a lot of rules. It is nearly impossible to transition off of the phone to a non-phone position. Even if you are qualified. I have co-workers with Master's degrees, still taking phone calls. Very hard to get promoted. I lot of favoritism that goes on behind the scenes. "

"Lots of "invisible rules" to conform too if you want to be successful. Company is slow to make decisions. Poor communication across company results in several teams working on similar projects simultaneously. Company as a whole is resistant to change- there are leaders and teams that try to push for new ideas. Heavily relationship based, rather than skills based- meaning your promotion and success lies in you grasping the "invisible rules" and being an ill-defined subjective "culture fit". "

"I would tell women to be prepared to face gender inequality in key leadership roles. It's harder for women to succeed-they need to work harder for promotions, for getting hired in leadership roles, and to break stereotypes."
