The NP/PA functions collaboratively with physicians in the Pediatric Critical Care Department and other Consultants. The NP/PA autonomously performs patient assessments, diagnosis and implements an appropriate plan of care. The NP/PA prescribes a variety of treatment modalities to meet patient care needs in the defined patient population up to and including PICU admissions/discharges and prescriptive authority. The NP/PA delivers competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs. Care is based on the nursing process and the medical plan of treatment. The NP/PA will deliver care with a team orientation, an emphasis on good customer relations, sound clinical judgment and appropriate decision-making abilities that take into consideration evidenced based practice.
Education and Experience Requirements
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
Master's Degree in Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care Certification is required. Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.
Physician Assistants
Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and a minimum 2 years of experience in a related specialized area strongly preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
Current Texas professional registered nurse license
Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license
Certified as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required
Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
Physician Assistants
Current Texas professional physician assistant license
Certified as a PA-C
Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
