    Position summary

lications and grow their businesses. Our dream is to interconnect the world - and create a historically significant company in the process. Today we are a $9 billion annual revenue company with over 13,000+ employees worldwide, and we're growing. Our global ecosystem is larger than our next 10 competitors combined, providing customers access to 2,000+ network services, 3,000+ cloud and IT services, 450+ content and digital media services, and 4,800+ enterprises.

If this sounds like the kind of company you'd like to work for, it gets better. Equinix's Software Architecture & Engineering team is on a mission to build next-generation platforms that power global operations at scale. We're looking for excellent software engineers with a product-building mindset to help drive that mission forward.

    Why This Role

You'll be architecting and building the platform that Equinix's global data center operations runs on - working at the intersection of enterprise architecture, full stack delivery, and AI-assisted engineering. The problems are real, the scale is global, and the decisions you make here will shape how thousands of technicians and engineers work across 70+ metros worldwide.

    About the Role

We're modernising the platforms that power day-to-day operations across Equinix's global data center network - moving to a modern full stack architecture built around a configurable framework, so our teams can adapt faster and scale without one-off development every time requirements change.

This is a Senior Staff (Expert) Engineer role. You'll own detailed technical design and hands-on delivery, working across business stakeholders, enterprise architects, and cross-functional engineering teams. You'll also serve as the technical anchor - setting the standard and shaping how things get built.

    Stack: React · Spring Boot · Java · PostgreSQL · CI/CD · GitHub Copilot

    What You'll Do

    Technical Leadership

    • Own detailed technical design and architecture - translating enterprise architecture direction into implementation-ready, application-level solutions

    • Drive the platform shift toward a configurable framework model- building services that scale across varied operational workflows

    • Set engineering standards across the team: code quality, design patterns, performance, and security

    • Serve as the senior technical voice for the leading design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on mentoring

    Hands-On Delivery

    • Lead full stack development with a current frontend emphasis (React), contributing meaningfully on the backend (Spring Boot); flexibility across both layers is essential as platform priorities evolve

    • Build and maintain microservices with Spring Boot and PostgreSQL as the primary data layer

    • Integrate with upstream and downstream systems across a complex enterprise landscape

    • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support high-velocity, reliable delivery

    AI-Assisted Engineering

    • Lead the team's AI-assisted development practices - writing precise prompts, reviewing generated output with the same rigour as hand-written code, and owning the maintainability of everything that ships

    • Use GitHub Copilot as a tool that accelerates engineering quality, not just output volume

    Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Partner with business teams, architects, and engineering peers to turn ambiguous requirements into scalable technical solutions

    • Influence design decisions across teams through technical credibility and clear communication

    What We're Looking For

    Required

    • 8+ years of hands-on software development in enterprise or large-scale distributed systems environments

    • Strong React experience - component architecture, state management, performance optimisation

    • Solid Spring Boot / Java backend development in a microservices context

    • Proficiency with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases

    • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

    • Active hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot or equivalent) - with the ability to critically evaluate and take full ownership of the output

    • Strong communication skills - able to work effectively across business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams simultaneously

    Preferred

    • Experience in enterprise platform or configurable framework development

    • Background in operational tooling, workforce management, or order management domains

    • Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field- or equivalent practical experience

    • Minimum 8 years of relevant software development experience

What a Strong Profile Looks Like

We're looking for engineers who have built real depth on one side of the stack, grown meaningfully into the other, and are ready to own an entire delivery chain and elevate the team around them.

Candidates with stronger frontend depth (React) who have solid backend experience are a particularly good fit for the current phase of this work. The balance will shift over time - comfort moving with it matters.
