Misuse of my time off during STD.

Holy moly, ladies. This is being blown up to be way more than it needs to be. My employer admitted fault and I'm allowed to feel frustrated. I caught their mistake within 2 pay periods, prior to my return to work, despite not having access to my account. I simply wanted to know if I had a right to ask for reinstatement of PTO without buy back. I sought advice from a women-empowered forum prior to asking my company. The judgement and negativity is not necessary. Thanks for sharing thoughts and guidance - I will simply step back and avoid confrontation.

I was asked, in writing, if I wanted my time off applied to my pay (after my 1-week elimination period). I explicitly said, in writing, "NO".
They agreed that, with consideration to all applicable laws and company policies, *THEY* made an error and applied 24 hours of my time off incorrectly. However, they simply told me "sorry we did that but we can't un-pay you." They offered to allow me to take unpaid days in the future but I was accounting for reduced pay now... not in six months.
I understand I should have been paying closer attention to my paychecks and that's on me. However, I didn't receive any paycheck stubs and couldn't sign into my computer to look.
I'm trying to be patient and understanding.
Do I have any rights to ask them to reinstate PTO? What do I do?
