I was scheduled for a telephone interview, where the hiring manager asked me to call her.

I as scheduled for a telephone interview, where the hiring manager asked me to call her. When I called, I had to leave a voicemail. About 15 minutes later, I received a text message with an apology for the delay and that she would call me shortly. She did not call me. She ghosted me. What is this all about?

Super common but unprofessional just the same. There is no etiquette or sense of responsibility these days.

    Hi there!

Thanks for sharing and on behalf of my fellow recruiters and hiring managers, I apologize. It is unprofessional and there is no excuse for it absent an emergency situation. The Recruiter mindset is a bit different. The role requires that there are a lot of moving parts, and some handle it better than others.

I will write a quick article on reasons why a recruiter may ghost you and circle back to post the link in this thread as it may or may not apply.

Wishing you the best in your search!

Former recruiter. That’s negligence on the recruiter’s and company’s part. There are people like me who would have followed up but some recruiters follow the hiring manager’s lead. I personally would have at least followed up even if I didn’t know what was going on. You know why? Because it’s ethical.
