Too good to not share

I applied to a job 6 months ago and completely forgot about it. Yesterday, I got a boilerplate rejection email--ON Christmas. Seriously??? They couldn't automate that prior to the holidays? I'm just sayin'....

    Yep....its the season of housekeeping.

Yep. I once got a rejection email after seeing on LinkedIn they'd hired someone else. That auto reject could've been sent out much sooner.

What the heck? That’s terrible. And pretty crappy to get it on Christmas. Please look at jobs in higher ed. There are tons and the benefits are great!

In my experience there is a club in higher education and coming from the business world with tons of transferable skills, we are discriminated against in education.

Not sure why you think that. I had years in corporate. There’s no “club”. Staff are needed to help run it. Been in 18 years. And about the same in corporate.

I was waiting to get the same since companies feel it’s appropriate to send rejections any time and often at 3am or the weekend, so why not the holidays. You know they can control when these are sent out, so why add insult to injury?

    ?? Yep. That stings. Sorry.

Count your blessings. You didn’t have to work there to see how things are handled.

It could just be a systems thing, auto-generated. Don't take it personal.

    Did you send the rejection?....

  11. Anonymous

What? Probably not, as my process beats any automated system for these. There are people who are overwhelmed and wait on things though. Sorry you were rejected.

  12. Anonymous

It's not the rejection-it's the timing of it.

  13. Anonymous

I get it, doesn't feel good.

Sorry, I know that stings. The exact same thing happened to me on Thanksgiving day. Automated or not, who does that? Red flag!!

  15. Anonymous

It's date driven not holiday driven, it's not a red flag. Poor communication skills and care for candidates, but not a red flag that can depict an entire company, just the lack of care of that recruiter of not taking care of it prior. Show grace.

  16. Anonymous

I'll start showing grace for the consistently bad recruiting experiences when companies start showing grace to candidates.

  17. Anonymous

Grace has to start somewhere, just saying.

I would NOT be happy too! No thought process to their procedures.

I got one too on Christmas, it’s like they can’t wait another day to send the rejection

Knowing that these emails come any day, any time of the day, your better option would have been to stay off of email.

  21. Anonymous

That's a ridiculous thing to say.

  22. Anonymous

But is it? It's selfcare. Stay away from the email on a day like Christmas because these emails come any time of the day or not, give yourself a wee bit of peace. I've already seen this argument play out on LinkedIn over the past week and I'm echoing what many are saying.
