In 1987 I got a job through a classifed ad in the Sunday paper. Every job that I've gotten since then has been through networking. I just found out that my husband got into his organization 30 years ago when he was working retail and told a customer that he was looking. So just a reminder, to make sure that everyone you know or meet is aware of that you're in job search mode.

For sure! Some people only reach out to people in their close circle when looking for a job but it's often the "weak ties" that can provide even more value because they have diverse work experience, connections and insights to share.

I would add - meet with people and network whether you are the one looking or are meeting with someone else who is looking. I meet with a lot of people who are searching or considering a change. Sometimes, I have immediate ideas for connections to introduce them to. Sometimes I don't, but it may happen down the line. Worst case scenario, you keep those people skills up and you meet some great people along the way.
