After many years working in corporate communications , I'm looking to make a career pivot into strategy and strategic partnerships and also want to work for smaller private entities but: 1) Where/how does one start this change/pivot? and 2) What's the best way to change or adapt a resume - are functional resumes the best approach?

Typically an objective statement on a resume is not needed, but in this case why not include one to make it clear you are looking to pivot your career. Something like

Objective: Seeking to bring my extensive experience in corporate communications to a role in strategy and strategic partnerships.

Then only apply to those types of roles and your objective is clear why someone like you is applying.

Then list your experience chronologically but include accomplishments where strategy was used. Good luck!
