I can't see some one who does not fit in being happy in the workplace. And when I say fit in, I mean who cannot adapt to the Company culture.

I think having a sense of psychological safety is more important than fitting in. If your company culture allows you to feel safe to be yourself authentic self it can be better than being expected to be the same as everyone else.

however, being able to align with a company culture can help it feel like a better match for what is important to you.

in some companies fitting in plays a big part in getting ahead.

The better question is "fit in" according to whom? These days, it is a revolving door at many companies. And with just about all certainty, that is going to accelerate. You can start out with a great team and within weeks, everything has gone down the drain if a BUM MANAGER is brought in etc etc. The culture changes on a dime.......
