I've applied for lower-level roles than my former position as I need a job & there aren't a lot of options in my area. When interviewing, I'm finding that the daily requirements my former staff handled. I've completed the work previously on my way up the corporate ladder but using different programs.

To combat this issue, I've been taking HubSpot courses to update my skills. I have an upcoming interview next week where I'm worried about a new component they added to the position after making it to the second round.

Back story, I've directed media relations strategy but my staff carried out the execution in my last role. I really need a job and once I know what program they are using, I'm confident that I'll be able to get up to speed but with the array of options from Cision, Meltwater, CRM and AI crafted press release as well as the traditional targeted pitch, I don't want to wave my old-school flag. I'd appreciate your advice.

In interviews talk about how you learn new technology and cite and example if need be. Everyone gets out of date on something at some point. Watch some videos on the tools and don't fake it in the interviews, but know enough to talk intelligently about the basics of what you have that align.

Great ideas and I appreciate everyone's advice. In this job market and location, I need to make sure I'm qualified but at the same time not overqualified for roles. It's been a difficult road to navigate and requiring to take a step back in order to move forward.
