    Check the licensing requirements for your area. Most places will have an "associate license" that you can use to practice while you are working on the supervised learning hours required to be fully licensed. Then check with counseling agencies that provide supervision, as that will be a requirement as well.

    If you are in the US, each state regulates the counseling profession differently and all states require licensing. You will also have to pass a board exam in most areas. Each state will require testing by different agencies, so make sure your credentials will match up when it is time to apply for your license. Most states require master's degrees, others you can apply while still working on the master's. If that is not the direction you want to go, check out state agencies or non-profits that provide case management. Your education should qualify you for those positions.

    Check with your local department of social services, look at state jobs as well. If you have a bachelors degree or just a certification, that may make a difference, but check out the employer requirements. Good luck!
