    Like any relationship that is controlling, you feel a bit more free when they are not around. That controlling behavior also causes more stress. When they are not there, your stress is less. It's behavioral too. When you're always on guard, we feel more tense, when that feeling goes away, you are more relaxed.

    Once upon a time, I had a manager that, when she was out/on vacation/taking care of personal business/whatever, we knew (the rest of the team) that we would get so much more done than when she was in the office. And we generally felt we could enjoy our job more. It was because she was micromanaging but rather that she was chaotic...a very disorganized individual who relied too heavily on all of us to do her job. It actually reached a point a bit later in my time there that I had to have an open an honest conversation with her boss about us frequently doing all the work and she was taking credit for it.

    My current boss, it is actually quite the opposite. We have a great working relationship, we make a great team. If we weren't employee/manager, I imagine we'd be great friends outside the office.

    i enjoy having the lights out and a candle lit in my office - I’ve gotten more done in 3 days than a typical 3 weeks
