Hi everyone, looking for some advice.

Hi everyone, looking for some advice. I was just laid off after 10 yrs of working as a remote bookkeeper for a company that is now closing. The job worked for me because it was fully remote with flexible hours and was non-corporate with no one breathing down my neck and involved very little interaction with others. I am a textbook introvert and this was perfect for me and kind of a unicorn job, I think. I am searching for a new remote job but everything I’m seeing in the bookkeeping world feels very corporate so far which is not for me (I know from experience). What are other legitimate remote work options that offer solitude, flexibility, autonomy and stability without being corporate? I’m not in a financial position to start my own business (i.e. selling art online - my degree is in art) as I need a reliable income, but being my own boss is the ultimate dream and I’m not necessarily opposed to furthering my education for the right work.

Hi Elisabeth. Have you looked into organizations that provide virtual outsourced bookkeeping? I'm familiar with one company named Supporting Strategies and I'm sure there are others. Many of these types focus on small to mid-sized clients so they aren't as corporate-like.

One thing to be aware is that some of them (like Supporting Strategies) are franchised so make sure to do your homework on whatever group you're talking with.

    Good luck.
